How this site is written.
Every page reviewed by a licensed Ontario criminal lawyer.
People usually read this site at a stressful moment — right after a charge, an arrest, or a call from a family member. They deserve information that is accurate, current, and written by someone accountable for it. This page explains how we make sure it is.

Who writes and reviews our content
Every practice-area page, city page, and article on spektorlaw.ca is written or personally reviewed by Aaron M. Spektor, Barrister & Solicitor — a criminal defence lawyer called to the Bar of Ontario in 1997 (Law Society of Ontario #51731A), with 30 years of courtroom experience and admissions through the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Nothing is published without his review, and his name, licence number, and the date of the most recent review appear on every page.
You can verify Aaron’s licence and good standing on the Law Society of Ontario’s Lawyer and Paralegal Directory by searching his name or LSO number.
How content is checked
- Accuracy against the law itself. Statements about offences, penalties, procedure, and rights are checked against the current text of the legislation and the governing case law.
- Ontario-specific. Our content describes how matters actually proceed in the Ontario courts and the GTA courthouses where Aaron appears, not generic or U.S. law.
- Plain language, no exaggeration. We explain the realistic range of outcomes. We do not promise results, and we do not use fear to sell services.
- Dated and reviewed. Each page shows when it was last updated and that it was legally reviewed, so you can judge how current it is.
Sources we rely on
Where we describe the law, we rely on primary and official sources, and our articles link to them so you can read the source yourself:
- Criminal Code (R.S.C. 1985, c. C-46)
- Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
- Criminal Records Act
- Highway Traffic Act (Ontario)
- Ontario Court of Justice
- Superior Court of Justice
- Parole Board of Canada — record suspensions
- Legal Aid Ontario
Keeping content current
Criminal law changes — through new legislation, appellate decisions, and shifts in Crown policy. We review the site when the law changes and on a regular schedule, and update the “Last updated” date whenever a page is revised or re-reviewed.
Case results
The outcomes described on our Results page and practice-area pages are real matters, anonymized to protect client confidentiality and solicitor–client privilege. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome; every case turns on its own facts and evidence.
Independence
We do not publish sponsored content, accept payment for links, or use affiliate arrangements. The only purpose of this site is to help people understand their situation and, if they choose, to contact Aaron directly.
Not legal advice
Our content is general information about Ontario criminal law. It is not legal advice, and reading it does not create a solicitor–client relationship. Your situation depends on facts only a lawyer who has reviewed your disclosure can assess.
